Nikita Gale, SOME WEATHER (Blizzard), 2021
__

CIRCA:
This new work for CIRCA is grounded through the words and ideas of numerous black female writers, including Christina Sharpe and Toni Morrison. Why are these writers important to you?

NIKITA GALE:
The simplest answer would be that they are doing the work of archiving and centering the marginalized and chronically neglected experiences of Black and non-white femme experiences. Sharpe’s use of the term “weather” as a means of characterizing the total atmosphere of global (intergalactic, even) anti-blackness was very informative to how I developed my own relationship to the term “weather” for this project.
