The rough triangle wedged between West 47th and 45th Street is, to anyone who has never been to the Big Apple, the shimmering encapsulation of one of the greatest cities on the planet. But to any traveller to have witnessed the sickly-sweet glow of American commercialism on speed, Times Square is a place to avoid.
